National Novel Writing Month is November!
Sun, 11/02/2008 - 11:41am — SorayaNaNoWriMo or National Novel Writing Month began yesterday but it's not too late to get in on the action. In case you've missed the posts from Eisel and me in the past, NaNo is where people all over the world attempt to write a 50K word novel in 30 days (aka November.) It's fun, crazy, leads to lots of dirty dishes in the sink and wearing the same pair of jeans until they can walk and talk but it's a creative whirlwind and so much fun!

How to Attract Women (Gamers, That Is)
Sun, 10/26/2008 - 9:18pm — SorayaIf you've ever been to E3 or any of the large industry game cons -- or read about them after the fact you no doubt know about "booth babes." Now I suppose I can't really complain too much. After all, games of all varieties and genres are filled with mostly naked, super shapely, a$$-kicking, hyper-armed, sleek babes who would kill as soon as kiss you. All this does rile my feminist side just a tad, but I realize its business and besides, it doesn't interfere with my game play so I'll forgive them and overlook the blatant sexism. My big problem is that these "booth babes" are frauds.

How to keep an RPG PbP Board Alive
Sun, 10/26/2008 - 3:31pm — Zeta ThompsonSo, you have had a board for a while now. The story has been going along well and suddenly people get busy and stop posting. A major thread is frozen and nothing goes forward. Players leave or find other places to be and the board dies. Here are some tips, I have found work for me, to help you get through the dry posting periods and perhaps even avoid a complete halt to the story.
Good Grief ... here we go again
Sun, 10/26/2008 - 3:15pm — EffieRoverOnce again, I've climbed up from the MySQL pit of despair into a working system. Once again, I've had to completely re-do the theming and graphics of the site. Can anything be easy?
Someday I'd like to do an upgrade that is simply an upgrade rather than a complete crash and rebuild. But that is not my lot.

Selkies Secret
Sat, 10/25/2008 - 7:59pm — ob1knorrbThe night was clear; the Moon was full and high overhead. On the shores of the sea, the comforting smells of drying kelp and salt filled the cooling night air. A perfect time for Shaughna and her friends to gather together, shed their seal skins and enjoy the feel of human legs as they spun and twirled in the warm sand. Unfortunately, none of them paid much attention to the unknown ship that was laid to anchor several miles awayâ
An Uneventful Day
Sat, 10/25/2008 - 7:55pm — RemmyChapter 1: An uneventful Day
****
Sarah Miler is a coppertop. Unbeknownst to her, especially in her still grim state after the death (or apparent death) of her older brother. She's about to see her older brother once again. She lives in Chicago Illinois, the Windy city. Crime, poverty, riches and commerce. She works for a hospital, her training as a nurse just ended two months ago. Sarah Miler works third shift and it's mid-morning.
Another One Bites the Dust
Sat, 10/25/2008 - 7:45pm — RemmyForward:
As the name, and if you don't realize it by reading this short story, implies it's based off (and includes the lyrics) of the Queen song Another one Bites the dust.
---
Steve walks warily down the street, brim pulled way down low. Ain't no sound, but the sound his feet, machine gun's ready to go.
Bedtime Story
Sat, 10/25/2008 - 7:42pm — SorayaOnce upon a time,
in a lullaby far, far away --
the wicked witch died
and the beautiful princess
married her handsome prince.
The blissful pair rode off
on his snowflake stallion
to a remote castle in the sky
where no children were born,
in the silent, frozen edifice.
No servant would remain,
no visitors graced their home,
no peddler visited twice,
no birds perched in rafters,
and no flowers sprinkled nearby hills.
The princess's voice grew shrill
her prince withdrew silently
the rooms echoed with emptiness
and the false notes of a sullen eyrie.
