Advice/Assistance requested
OK ... I was hoping to "pick the brains" of all you wise and wonderful people out there...
I have the CONCEPTUAL design for something that is simply unavailable at present either as a free service OR a paid/billable one ... and yet I cannot fathom why.
Unfortunately, my SQL/php skills are not up to the job ... in fact they are non-existant.
In essence, I would like to be able to use/create/devise/whatever a database backend that can store a database of people, with defined relationships (for example - a Geneological database of the "Royal Families of Europe") ... and YES I know there are lots of those ... but none that can do the next points
1. It should be able to host a fantasy world dataset
- 1. It must be able to customise the "current date" function
- 2. It (preferably) should be able to accept a differently coded day/week/month/year length value system
2. In all the SQL/php/genealogy systems I have seen - you are presented with a text based search box ... somehow you are expected to randomly "Guess" a name, and start vaguely wandering from there ... what I would like to do is for it to have
- 1. Location-based searching (clicking on "London" immediately sets your focus there)
- 2. Tree-based Navigation ... be able to display a web/mesh dynamic graphic showing the names and relationships between all individuals, automatically focused on whichever person yuo choose, and allowing you to define the "relationship distance" definable (direct children / direct parents / siblings / spouse(s) / cousins / in-laws / etc)
- 3. Ability to double-click on the symbolic link for an individual and thus bring up an dynamic HTML page containing details on life/loves/spouses/children/parents/etc ... and be able to navigare through these dymanic pages also ...
Probably the hardest component of this system would be the dynamic graphical navigation through the Tree/mesh of family relationships ...
This sort of thing is critical
in a "political" type game where knowing how closely related you are to the crown prince of Denmark or the Duke of Warickshire is an issue ... and hey - if we solve that sort of navigation there are plenty of "Geneological" websites that might pay good money for the solution ...
